Putting down "The Hammer"

Like most high visibility people accused of a crime, Tom DeLay went on to declare his innocence. The indictment is purely politically based, says DeLay. This is coming from the same man who pressed hard to impeach Bill Clinton in 1998.

A chorus of talking heads is making sure to note that the prosecutor is a "liberal Democrat" therefore this indictment has no basis on law, but the politics of personal destruction. DeLay was admonished three times last year by the House Ethics Committee, a slap on the wrist if you would, so I don't think this is political witch hunting the man has ethical issues.

Only 10 years after taking over congress and 5 years of dominance over two branches of government the GOP has proven to be corrupt, like the Democrats they replaced, and inept at controlling spending. It used to be that Republicans were "fiscally fit" and the Democrats were "tax and spend" liberals , but under GOP rule, discretionary spending has gone up faster than when LBJ was in office, a tax and spend Texan.

The challenge now goes to moderate politicians to speak up against the course we've taken, and follow up with action, plans to actually do something, not just rosy rhetoric. The public should also wake up and realize how we are being bamboozled by both parties pitting us against each other over cultural wars while they are driving this country to a ditch.

No kidding. I consider myself 'conservative' but I'm getting pretty upset with the current administration. How about a veto on a pork laden bill? I think the truth we're finding out is you need a balance of power in the government with at least one legislative body controlled by an opposite party. Much like everyone else today, no one is to blame, it's always someone else's fault. That's is the primary problem with society today as I see it. No personal accountability. The burden always falls on someone else. If you don't see it coming directly out of your pocket, why worry? At least that seems to be the prevailing view of the government and society at large. We've got to get rid of entitlement, get rid of the legislators retirement plan (full salary for the rest of your life even if you only serve 1 term), and put responsibility back on individuals.
