Let the profiteering begin

Seems like the usual companies stand to reap millions of dollars for rebuilding work on the Gulf Coast. Once again Halliburton is getting contract work as well as Bechtel National Inc. These companies have earned billions of dollars rebuilding Iraq.

A new person on the mix is Joe Allbaugh, who was the head of FEMA until 2003, and a good friend and responsible for Michael Brown at FEMA. I won't attempt to recreate the record of how Joe Allbaugh has made millions lobbying for companies after leaving his government job. You can visit Josh Marshall's blog for that.

The bottom line is this: companies with close ties to the White House are reaping millions of dollars in contract to rebuild the Gulf Coast profiteering on the face of disater by milking the government. Reports of Haliburton over billing the Pentagon are not uncommon. Though I don't ever expect this to happen, but hopefully through enough public outcry, high level appointees should be barred from getting cush lobbying jobs for at least a year after leaving office by choice or end of term. It's really disgusting to see these people claim to fight special interests while in office and then joining them as soon as they leave.
